The Swedish company Reselo has developed a unique process that converts bark from birches into a new biomaterial, named Reselo Rubber. This bio-based rubber can replace fossil-based rubber in consumer products such as shoes, protective equipment and toys.

Reselo also develops other biomaterials from renewable sources, but Reselo Rubber is the first biomaterial to reach the market. The birch bark from which it is made is a common residual product in the Swedish pulp industry.

The company sees great potential for Reselo Rubber and has conducted an analysis of the material that shows it can potentially replace synthetic polymers in a variety of applications. That would mean a step towards making the Swedish industry less dependent on fossil fuels.
